The ratio of Omega-3 fats to Omega-6 fats is out of balance by a factor of 20-40 times too much Omega-6 (pro-inflammatory fats). Omeg3-3 fats, are extremely anti-inflammatory and healing, and should comprise roughly 1/2 of the sum of Omega-3 fats + Omega-6 fats. None of us have a deficiency in omega-6 fats, but the quality of those that we eat are an issue. Even so, you cannot and should not ever take an Omega-6 supplement--such as Borage Oil & Evening Primrose Oil. You will be eating lots of the omega-6 fats in your diet, and should also consume the Omega-9 fats, found in Olive oil and avocados, but never buy a supplement.

LNA is found in Organic Flax seeds in the best available ratio to the O-6's and O-9's to gradually increase your Omega-3 intake by more than your Omega-6 intake so you can achieve a healthy balance at 1:1 or at most 2:1. Note that the diet I am recommending requires, simultaneously, that you eat voluminous amounts of high fiber, high nutrient plant foods. All plant foods, except flax seed, contain significantly more O-6 fats than O-3 fats, so you will be able to achieve a healthy ratio between O-3's and O-6's. Therefore it is essential to consume daily enough of the HIGHEST QUALITY of Flax Oil. The chemical structure of an Omega-3 fat makes it extremely fragile and it will become rancid in a matter of hours once ground into meal or pressed into oil, unless it is not exposed to oxygen (air), heat, or light. Barlean's presses their Flax oil very carefully, in equipment modified to grind without the normal heat levels, other commercial oil suppliers generate in their metal to metal presses. They also press the oil in a vacuum so the possibility of the fat becoming rancid is greatly reduced. To my knowledge there are only two companies in the U.S who do this. Of them, Barlean's is the best, in my opinion for many reasons including shipping directly to the reseller the day after pressing the oils, pricing, and the product selection. But don' t buy their O-6 or O-9 or fish oil supplements--just the high lignan flax, please.

I believe in whole foods first. However, I have worked with thousands of people and can conclude this. I know and you know if you are honest with yourself that if I ask you to take DIALY, either: 1 TBSP of the liquid, or 10 capsules of the capsules, or 3 full TBSP of freshly ground by you!! organic flax seed meal, that you will more likely choose the first option. NOT EATING THIS AMOUNT (10 g) of this critical fatty acid (LNA) insures illness and disease as certainly as injecting yourself with a bacteria that will overcome your immune system. You may not recognize or ever identify the connection to the symptoms/illnesses you will have from this shortage of the Flax (LNA) fat, but they will be there none the less. I am as serious as a heart attack--just one of the non-health events that LNA can help prevent.

All Omega-3 fats are powerfully anti-inflammatory (healing) and regulating of immune & hormone functioning. The plant version found in Flax seeds (LNA) contains the highest percentage of Alpha-Linolenic acid (LNA or ALA) of all foods, nuts, or seeds in the world. LNA is THE, not one of, BUT THE ESSENTIAL form of Omega-3 fats. Fish oils can be made in the human body using enzymes that convert the LNA into fish oils known as EPA and DHA. Fish oils are derivatives of (i.e. made from) LNA and are also Omega-3 fats. Research by G. Burdge et al. has proven that women require 85% of their total OMEGA-3 fats to come from the Flax seed oil form. Men use Flax oil (LNA) at a slightly higher level, at 90%. Therefore, we must consume the Flax seed oil first in very significant amounts, a minimum of 1 TBSP daily and more for many clients--especially as they get started. That is 10 grams (10 of the 1g capsules! or 10 g=1TBSP of liquid). Flax seed oil from the specially processed Barlean's brand will provide 62% (Omega-3 LNA): 18% LA (Omega-6 fat LA & LNA (Omega-6 fats), and 22% Omega-9 (Oleic Acid). I recommend adding it to the Organic High Fiber Complete Smoothie daily. With a 3.6:1 ratio between Omega-3:Omega-6 fats, it is the perfect equalizer to improve and correct the critical balance between Omega-3 fats vs. Omega-6 fats, which needs to be 1:1 or at most 1:2.
